That's the line in a statement released by UVA student org, Students for Justice in Palestine, on the Hamas attacks in Israel.
The statement was released a day after Hamas' surprise attack, which has left more than 1,300 Israelis dead.
Virginia's Attorney General Jason Miyares denounced SJP's "hateful message" on X, formerly known as Twitter.
"You cannot ‘mourn the loss of human life’ and ‘hope for long-lasting peace’ and also cheer on the murder, rape, and hostage-taking by Hamas, a terrorist organization that exists for the destruction and murder of Jewish people," he said.
"Virginia Congresswoman Jen Kiggans (R-02) called it "truly disgusting," noting Hamas is a terrorist organization who go "door-to-door executing women, children, and the elderly in cold blood. Those they don't torture and kill, they are using as human shields."
Meanwhile, Israel ordered more than 1.1 Gazans to evacuate the southern part of the strip Friday, Oct. 13 ahead of a ground invasion in retaliation against Hamas.
